It is home to the recently revamped Haymarket railway station, and its road links are second to none. Whether you need the M8 to get you to Glasgow or the M9 heading to Stirling, the journey is simple from Haymarket. Alternatively, you can hop on a tram, whether you need to go into the city centre or head out to the airport.

The only difficult thing will be forcing yourself to leave this popular area and its plethora of popular eateries and pubs. There are restaurants and cafes to suit every taste and budget, whether you want a burger feast, the best in modern British cuisine or some Japanese, Chinese or Vietnamese fare. There are traditional Scottish pubs, wine bars and gastro pubs aplenty — enough to comfortably enjoy a drink or meal in a different venue on every day of the week.

It is also an exciting time for the Haymarket thanks to a planned £200 million redevelopment of the Morrison Street Goods Yard. The Haymarket project will boost amenities in the area and improve pedestrian links with The Exchange and nearby Fountainbridge.

Haymarket is just a short hop from Edinburgh city centre, but there is plenty to do in the immediate area. There are a host of quirky shops to explore, and rugby fans and lovers of live music and events will love the close proximity to Scottish rugby’s home at Murrayfield Stadium. Murrayfield Ice Rink is also nearby, where you can watch a game of ice hockey or grab some skates and have a go yourself.

Edinburgh Zoo, the only attraction in the UK to house giant pandas and koalas, is less than ten minutes away, providing a first-class family attraction on the doorstep.

For families, there is a host of schooling options nearby. These include St Mary’s Music School in neighbouring West End, St George’s School for Girls, St Peter’s R C Primary School, the Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School and Boroughmuir High School. The location is so good that whatever your child’s hobbies, there will be easily accessible facilities nearby and plenty of opportunities to try something new.

There are excellent leisure facilities provided at the nearby Fountain Park leisure complex, and the walkway of the Union Canal is close to hand.
